About

My passions in life come in three flavors: gaming, knitting, and the written word. (Coffee probably comes in at number four…)I discovered my love of books and creative writing in high school. We read excerpts from Homer’s Odyssey, and a friend introduced me to The Hobbit, by J. R. R. Tolkien, and I’ve been obsessed with publishing and writing ever since.I graduated from Colgate University with a degree in English (with an emphasis in creative writing) and Classical Studies. After graduation, I knew I wanted to work in publishing.I stumbled into scholarly publishing and found a job as an editorial assistant in the publications department of a nonprofit medical society. The society had two medical journals at the time, and I dove in, eager to learn everything I could about publishing. Fifteen years later, I was their senior director of publications, and was responsible for a staff of ten and a portfolio of five journals. My experiences in scholarly publishing have covered a wide range of topics, including manuscript formatting; writing and editing procedures, presentations, proposals, and reports; production management; and project management.I’m enrolled in the Copyediting Certificate program at UC San Diego Extended Studies, and I’m a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), the American Copy Editors Society (ACES), and the International Society for Managing and Technical Editors (ISMTE).

Business or Nonprofit

With 15 years of experience in the scholarly publishing industry, Two Griffins Publishing and Editorial Services can elevate the copy for your business or nonprofit. A bird’s-eye view can make sure your message hits the mark. But at Two Griffins, I’ll take an aggressive look at your communications, whether it’s a report, how-to guide, or marketing copy, and ensure that your writing is crisp, concise, and consistent. You have important things to say! Let me help you make the right impact on your target audience!

Services

CopyeditingWhen you’ve already written what you need, a professional copyeditor can help provide consistency and clarity, ensuring that your message is the strongest it can be. Copyediting includes checking spelling, grammar, diction, style, and cross-references and other correlating parts, such as tables of contents, indexes, and figures and tables. I’m skilled in copyediting reports, procedures, instructions, how-to guides, FAQs, presentations, marketing materials, newsletters, website copy, and more. I have experience with Chicago, APA, and AP styles, or I can work with your own house style.

FormattingHow your communications look can be just as important as what you say. I can help format reports, presentations, and articles to ensure that critical information is front-and-center, tables and graphs are elegant and consistent, and related items such as images, footnotes, endnotes, and references are properly formatted and linked. Let your information shine!

ProofreadingProofreading is the final step before publication for any work, whether it’s a report, an internal newsletter, or a book. I can review your work at this last stage to ensure everything is error free before you publish (or post).

Transcribing and word processingMaybe you have interviews or seminars that need transcripts, or maybe you have hand-written forms that need to be keyed into your system quickly and accurately. I’ve got the typing speed and attention to detail to get your project typed and ready to go.

Project development and managementYou’ve got the experts, but you need someone to set timelines and ensure all steps are laid out. (There’s nothing worse than realizing at the eleventh hour that a critical step was left off the project plan!) Or maybe you need someone to monitor metrics and keep the deliverables on-schedule. I have 15 years of experience running multiple publications on tight, overlapping schedules, as well as organizing large-scale projects, including things like staff onboarding, editor transitions, and journal and program launches.
